It’s amazing how the simple and basic wooden playhouse can be innovated to include a lot of features like slides, climbing frames, swings and others. But the question is, are they necessary or just superficial elements to attract children?

Wooden playhouses are originally intended to provide children with their own space outdoors where they could enhance their imagination and engage in creative activities that provide learning. Apart from the playhouse, which keeps children entertained, there is the playground, which focuses in providing them with more physical activities.

Incorporating some of the facilities in the playground into a wooden playhouse might be a good idea but the basic purpose of a playhouse seems to deteriorate. Kids, by nature, are restless and they would be more delighted to run around, slide, swing and climb rather than engage in role playing.

Perhaps it would be best if we keep our wooden playhouse basic. Let children distinguish the difference between a playground and a playhouse. Instead of adding amenities from the playground, why not shower your wooden playhouse with extras that would tickle their imagination.

When you’re having difficulty deciding whether to paint your wooden playhouse or leave it natural, step back and weigh up the advantages and drawbacks of painting the playhouse.

As children are more attracted to color and design, painting your wooden play house would encourage them more into playing. However, you should choose the right color that would blend well with the type of lawn you have and also the color of your house. Preferably, use light colors even for the interior of the playhouse.

There are also disadvantages in painting your wooden playhouse. Most paints, even if they boast of longevity are subject to wear and tear since playhouses are meant for outdoors and exposed to the sun’s heat. Consequently, re-painting is much needed to bring your wooden playhouse back to its original beauty. Another thing is it’s a little bit difficult and messy when you decide again to give the playhouse a new look with a different color once you feel your child gets tired of it.

If you don’t want any complications, you can leave the wooden playhouse in its natural color and just apply wood stain as needed. Anyway, wood is simply elegant and needs less maintenance.
